Extremadura rejects new Spanish regional financing model

Extremadura's regional government has rejected the Spanish central government's proposed new model for autonomous community financing. Elena Manzano, the regional Minister of Finance, Public Administration, and Social Dialogue, stated that the new system would result in a loss of 600 million euros for the region by 2027.

Manzano criticized the model, claiming it was designed to favor specific interests and noting that 14 other autonomous communities had already voted against it. She argued that Extremadura's share of total revenue would drop from 2.78% to 2.51%. The regional administration is calling for a specific fund of 72 million euros to maintain the current status quo and prevent negative impacts on essential services such as healthcare, education, and regional employment.
