Extreme heat warnings issued across Alabama and Pennsylvania

Extreme heat is expected across parts of the United States this week, prompting warnings and safety protocols in Alabama and Pennsylvania.

In Alabama, the National Weather Service in Birmingham has warned of “dangerous heat” throughout the week. While no formal heat advisory has been issued, “feels-like” temperatures in West Alabama are expected to reach between 99 and 104 degrees Fahrenheit. High temperatures may reach the mid-to-upper 90s, potentially hitting 100 degrees in certain areas.

In Allegheny County, a code red heat advisory has been issued from Tuesday through Thursday. Meteorologists expect highs in the low 90s, which is significantly above the seasonal average of 80 degrees. The county has also warned of the possibility of severe thunderstorms during this period. The Allegheny County Department of Human Services is deploying protocols to check on vulnerable residents, including older adults, and senior centers will remain open to provide cooling relief.
