Extreme heat and severe storms impact multiple US regions

Multiple regions across the United States are facing severe weather threats, including extreme heat and intense storms.

In the Midwest, Central Illinois is under threat of severe storms, heavy rain, and damaging winds, with heat indices potentially reaching 105 degrees. Portions of southern Illinois and central Missouri are also under extreme heat warnings, with heat index values expected to climb as high as 110 degrees.

In California, extreme temperatures have led to the temporary closure of the San Diego River Gorge and Three Sisters hiking trails through the end of August to ensure public safety and manage wildfire risks. Additionally, Riverside County has faced flash flood warnings due to severe thunderstorms. While some areas in Southern California are expected to see a cooling trend and increased marine layer coverage later this week, coastal regions remain under advisories for potential minor flooding due to high tides.
