Extreme Heat Wave Hits Israel, Temperatures Reach 47°C

A severe heat wave is expected to sweep across Israel starting Friday, peaking on Saturday and Sunday, according to the Israel Meteorological Service. Temperatures could climb to as high as 47 °C in the area around the Sea of Galilee and northern valleys, with most regions experiencing heavy to extreme heat. The hot, dry conditions combined with strong north‑westerly winds increase the risk of wildfires, especially in the northern and central parts of the country. Authorities have warned the public to avoid open fires, stay hydrated, and limit exposure to the sun during the hottest hours.

The forecast also calls for high humidity along the coastal plain, strong breezes over the Mediterranean, and wave heights of 60‑120 cm. Nighttime conditions will be partly cloudy, with possible reduced visibility due to local fog on the southern coastal plain and north‑west Negev. The meteorological service defines a heat wave as a period of at least three consecutive days where average temperatures exceed regional thresholds.
