Extreme Heat Wave Scorches El Paso and Tamaulipas

Temperatures across the US‑Mexico border surged to near‑record levels on July 26, with El Paso, Texas, hitting 105 °F (40.6 °C) under a high‑pressure ridge. The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for El Paso and surrounding communities, warning of increased risk of heat‑related illnesses.

In Mexico’s Tamaulipas state, Nuevo Laredo recorded 103 °F (39.5 °C) while other cities saw highs above 100 °F. Authorities warned of extreme UV exposure, low rainfall chances and urged residents—especially children, seniors and those with chronic conditions—to limit outdoor activity and stay hydrated. Both sides of the border emphasized protective measures as the sweltering conditions persisted throughout the day.
