Extreme weather and record ocean temperatures impact global regions

Extreme weather events driven by climate change are impacting multiple regions globally. In Europe, rising temperatures have led to severe droughts and record-breaking sea surface temperatures. The Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea reached historic highs in July, with the average extratropical ocean surface temperature hitting a record 20.96 °C. Experts warn these shifts threaten biodiversity and could disrupt ocean circulation patterns like the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC).

In Chile, an extratropical cyclone caused intense instability in Santiago, resulting in heavy hail, violent showers, and a preliminary EF-0 tornado. Meanwhile, in the United States, heavy rainfall following the remnants of Storm Isaías has created significant flood risks across the central Appalachians and the Mid-Atlantic region, with potential for tornadoes in Virginia and North Carolina.
