Ezra Caudell in intensive care after Philadelphia Cycling Classic crash

American cyclist Ezra Caudell, 19, remains in intensive care following a severe crash during the Philadelphia Cycling Classic on August 30. Caudell, a rider for Modern Adventure Pro Cycling, sustained life-threatening injuries, specifically major trauma to his head and lungs.

According to a GoFundMe page established by a family friend, Caudell is being treated at Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital. While he is working toward stability, he is expected to face a long recovery process. The team and George Hincapie have requested privacy for the rider and his family during this time.

The incident occurred as Caudell and Belgian rider Milan Menten were attempting to bridge to a breakaway. Menten reported that Caudell lost balance after checking the peloton, causing his wheel to strike a curb or drain. The impact sent Caudell into a lamppost, knocking him unconscious. Menten, who was also taken to the hospital, noted that Caudell’s condition is significantly more serious than his own.
