FAA Certifies Boeing 737 MAX 7, Opening Door for Deliveries
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration granted type certification for Boeing's 737 MAX 7 on Monday, Aug. 3 2026, ending nearly a decade of regulatory delays. The approval follows extensive flight‑control software updates, a revised flight‑crew alerting system and a redesigned engine anti‑icing system, changes the agency said were required to meet safety standards.
Southwest Airlines, the launch customer, will be the first carrier to receive the aircraft, with deliveries expected to begin in 2027. Boeing has built about 30 MAX 7 jets that are currently parked awaiting delivery, and the company expects FAA certificates for both the MAX 7 and the larger MAX 10 before the end of 2026. The certification lifted a major hurdle for Boeing’s cash flow, and the company’s stock rose more than 5% after the news.
The MAX 7 seats 135‑160 passengers, offers a range of up to 3,800 nautical miles and promises roughly 20% lower fuel burn and a 50% reduction in noise compared with older models. The FAA’s decision also paves the way for the pending certification of the MAX 10 later this year.
