FAA moves to accelerate commercial aircraft certification

The Federal Aviation Administration announced proposed changes aimed at modernising and speeding the certification process for new commercial airplanes. By aligning certain requirements with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, the FAA seeks to provide manufacturers such as Boeing, Airbus, Embraer and Bombardier with consistent standards, reducing cost, time and complexity while maintaining safety. FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford highlighted the initiative as part of broader efforts to streamline approvals, including work on newer variants of the Boeing 737 MAX. The agency and EASA also agreed to expand cooperation on safety oversight and emerging aviation technologies, signalling a joint push toward faster certification of advanced aircraft designs.

The reforms could cut certification timelines and expenses, potentially benefiting the global aerospace market and accelerating the introduction of innovative aircraft technologies.
