Fable 2 receives native PC port via fan recompilation project
A fan-led project has successfully brought the 2008 RPG Fable 2, originally an Xbox 360 exclusive developed by Lionhead Studios, to PC. The project, known as Fable 2 Recomp, utilizes static recompilation to transform the original PowerPC code into C++, allowing the game to run natively on Windows without the need for an emulator.
This native port introduces several technical improvements over the original console version. Players can now access higher frame rates, including a 60 FPS option or an unlocked frame rate, whereas the original was limited to 30 FPS. The port also adds full support for keyboard and mouse controls, with customizable mapping and adjustable mouse sensitivity for camera movement.
Future plans for the project include implementing Vulkan support to enhance graphics and improving overall performance. To use this version, players must provide their own copy of the original game from either the American or European releases. The project is currently available via GitHub.
