Italy experiences series of fatal workplace accidents
Italy has recorded a series of fatal workplace accidents across several regions, resulting in multiple deaths within a short period.
In Marghera, near Venice, a 34-year-old Romanian subcontractor died while performing welding work in a confined space aboard the Seven Seas Prestige at the Fincantieri shipyard. Two colleagues also fell ill and were hospitalized; authorities are investigating whether the incident involved toxic substances or if the illnesses were due to emotional shock.
Other fatalities include a 57-year-old worker crushed by a press at the Biondi cardboard factory in Fabriano, and a young worker who fell from a ladder at an aggregate processing plant in San Leucio del Sannio. In Lecce, a 61-year-old construction worker was killed when a sliding gate collapsed on him in Casarano. Additionally, an accident at Lake Garda in Malcesine left one worker dead after a raft carrying a crane overturned, while two others were injured.
In a separate series of incidents, a 54-year-old municipal worker was struck by a vehicle in Piacenza, and a 57-year-old worker died after being struck by a crane arm at a construction site in Novara. These events have prompted investigations by judicial authorities and labor safety inspectors to determine if safety regulations were followed.
