Facebook group “con ghét bố mẹ” sees rapid membership surge
A Facebook group titled “con ghét bố mẹ” (children hate parents) has experienced a massive surge in membership, growing from approximately 58,000 members on September 28 to 262,000 by the morning of October 1. Established in 2021 with only a few thousand members, the group's rapid expansion has sparked significant public debate regarding family connectivity and youth mental health.
Posts within the group often feature anonymous accounts detailing grievances such as parental comparison, academic pressure, digital surveillance, and emotional neglect. Some contributors express extreme distress, while others seek community support for complex family dynamics, including divorce and financial instability.
Clinical psychologist Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien suggests that the group's rapid growth may be driven by social media viral effects and curiosity rather than a definitive increase in children hating their parents. She advises parents to look beyond the group's provocative name and focus on underlying communication issues.
