Fafá de Belém to headline Lusofonia Festival in Macau
Brazilian singer Fafá de Belém will headline the 29th Lusofonia Festival in Macau, scheduled to take place from October 23 to 25. Organized by the Macau Cultural Institute, this year’s edition emphasizes Brazilian culture as part of the official China-Brazil Cultural Year.
The festival lineup includes urban artist Fábio Panone Lopes, the EPO Dance group from Equatorial Guinea, and Timor Furak from Timor-Leste, alongside more than 40 local Lusophone artistic groups. Activities will span various city neighborhoods and include traditional music, dance, book exhibitions, and creative workshops.
Due to the withdrawal of sponsorship from Galaxy Entertainment Group, the festival has undergone a significant restructuring. Budgetary constraints led to a reduction in the event's duration, which has been shortened to three days. This change has reportedly caused dissatisfaction among local Lusophone associations, such as the Casa de Portugal in Macau and the Macau Association.
