Fagersta school sword attack leaves one dead and two injured

A 17-year-old girl has died following a sword attack at Brinell School in Fagersta, Sweden. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon during classes, shortly after students returned from summer break.

In addition to the fatality, two other minors, aged 12 and 17, sustained serious injuries. A third student suffered minor injuries and has since been discharged from the hospital. Police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the attack, which is being investigated as murder and attempted murder. The suspect, described as a former student of the school, was reportedly wearing a helmet during the incident.

Swedish authorities confirmed that officers discharged firearms during their intervention, though it remains unclear if the suspect was hit. Investigators have conducted two searches of properties related to the case and are looking into whether the suspect was involved in online communities that promote school violence.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and opposition leader Magdalena Andersson visited the site, where community members gathered to leave flowers and candles. Kristersson expressed solidarity with the victims' families, noting that the incident is a serious tragedy.
