Fake police scam in San Gemini leads to arrest of Tunisian suspect

Police in San Gemini, Italy, halted a fraud operation in which a 77‑year‑old woman was deceived by callers posing as carabiniere officers. The impostors claimed her daughter was under arrest for unpaid bills, prompting the victim to hand over gold jewelry worth about €3,500 and €300 in cash.

A 43‑year‑old Tunisian man, residing in the province of Naples, was arrested in the act after a citizen reported suspicious vehicle movements. The suspect received a residence‑obligation order and a three‑year travel ban from the Terni police headquarters. A 17‑year‑old foreign minor identified as an accomplice was placed in a local community facility. Investigations continue to locate additional participants and recover the stolen items.
