Falkland Islands evaluates restoring maritime route with Punta Arenas

The Falkland Islands Development Corporation (FIDC) is evaluating the restoration of a maritime route connecting the islands with Punta Arenas, Chile. A commercial delegation visited Chile in September 2025 to explore reactivating these trade connections.

According to official documents, the initiative aims to address supply chain delays that have caused shortages of basic goods and essential products. The proposal suggests a maritime and logistical connection with a frequency of every two or three months, with the possibility of increasing frequency based on demand. Both parties recognize the strategic commercial and logistical value of establishing this additional route to strengthen regional connectivity and supply chains.
