Falubaz Zielona Góra seeks additional municipal funding amid council debate

Stelmet Falubaz Zielona Góra, currently placed second‑last in the PGE Ekstraliga, has formally requested further financial support from the city. To date the club has received 3 million zł in municipal aid, and it is now asking for additional millions to cover operating costs. The request has been submitted to the Zielona Góra city council, which will review it through its budget and sport committees before deciding on any extra allocation.

Mayor Marcin Pabierowski confirmed the filing of the proposal and indicated that a new framework for sports subsidies is being considered, with potential performance‑based bonuses. Simultaneously, local businessman Stanisław Bieńkowski publicly rebuffed the mayor’s comments on the club’s financing, accusing the city of misrepresenting his contributions and demanding an apology. Bieńkowski highlighted that he has already contributed 6.15 million zł to the club and that the city’s earlier 3 million zł grant was insufficient. The dispute underscores tensions over public funding for professional sport in Zielona Góra.
