Families in Ghana seek investigations into deaths of two teenagers
Families in Ghana's Eastern Region are calling for investigations following the deaths of two teenagers under unclear circumstances.
In the Kwahu West Municipality, 14-year-old Keziah Mirekua, a Junior High School pupil, died after suffering severe burns in Mpraeso Amanfrom. While the exact cause of the incident remains unverified, family members have provided conflicting accounts. Some relatives suggested a connection to personal disputes involving a young man, while the teenager's mother and sister disputed claims regarding a possible pregnancy, maintaining that while she was in a relationship, she was not pregnant.
Separately, the family of Daniel Boateng Mintah, a student at Abomosu STEM Senior High School, is seeking a police probe into his death on September 30, 2026. Mintah died just 12 days after starting school. His father, David Mintah, reported inconsistencies in the explanations provided by the school and hospital. The family noted that after being told the student was unwell and required an injection for suspected malaria, they were later informed he had been brought to Kwabeng Hospital dead. Mr. Mintah expressed concerns regarding the condition of the body observed at the mortuary and has urged authorities to establish the true circumstances of the death.
