Investigations into teenage deaths in Ghana
Overview
Families in Ghana’s Eastern Region are calling for investigations into the deaths of two teenagers following unclear circumstances.
In the Kwahu West Municipality, 14-year-old Keziah Mirekua died after suffering severe burns in Mpraeso Amanfrom. While the exact cause remains unverified, relatives have provided conflicting accounts regarding personal disputes and the teenager’s personal life.
Separately, the family of Daniel Boateng Mintah, a student at Abomosu STEM Senior High School, is seeking a police probe into his death on September 30, 2026. His father, David Mintah, reported inconsistencies between explanations provided by the school and the hospital. The family noted that after being told the student required an injection for suspected malaria, they were later informed he had been brought to Kwabeng Hospital dead. Mr. Mintah expressed concerns regarding the condition of the body at the mortuary and has urged authorities to establish the true circumstances of the death.
