Families in Junín, Peru, consider evacuation due to rockslide risks

In the Soccos sector of the Chupuro district, approximately 80 residents of the Unión Progreso neighborhood are considering abandoning their homes due to the threat of further rockslides. The community, including children and the elderly, is coordinating a potential relocation to safer areas following recent seismic activity in the Junín region.

Local residents reported witnessing new rockfalls, which have heightened fears following a fatal accident on Friday where a rock struck a vehicle, killing the driver and injuring three others. The geological instability has also caused damage to several homes and impacted agricultural infrastructure, specifically damaging pipes connected to the local reservoir and threatening water supplies for crops.
