Public buildings were evacuated as a precaution, and preliminary inspections noted cracks in about a dozen public structures in Chiapas and limited infrastructure damage in Guatemala, prompting swift mobilisation of emergency services.

Guatemalan officials reported damage to public infrastructure and issued tsunami warnings. Daily low‑magnitude tremors continued along Mexico’s Pacific margin, including a July 27 swarm that reached magnitude 4.2.

In the weeks that followed, a magnitude 6.2 tremor struck Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, causing no injuries or damage, and on 28 July a new series of quakes was felt across Mexico’s Pacific coast. The strongest of this set was a magnitude 4.7 event near Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas, with additional shaking reported in Oaxaca, Guerrero, Colima, Michoacán and Jalisco. Authorities in both countries reinforced civil‑protection protocols and urged calm, noting no casualties.

Meanwhile, the June 2026 magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Peru’s Junín department continues to strain the region, leaving over 2,000 residents in damaged housing and maintaining a 60‑day state of emergency in five districts.
