Families launch justice vigil in Ankara for Grand Kartal Hotel fire victims
Families of the 78 victims of the Grand Kartal Hotel fire in Bolu have launched a justice vigil at Anıtpark in Ankara. The protest, titled ‘Justice Watch for 78 Lives’, aims to demand accountability following the tragedy that claimed 78 lives, including 36 children.
Participants are calling for the Court of Cassation to uphold convictions from the main trial. Additionally, the families are demanding that investigations into officials from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security be concluded, seeking to bring those responsible before the judiciary.
The vigil area features 78 chairs representing the deceased, adorned with carnations, alongside a screen displaying the names and photographs of the victims. Families stated they will continue their protest daily between 08:00 and 17:00 until justice is served.
