Family of AXE Ceremonia victims alleges insurance dispute

The family of photojournalist Miguel Ángel Rojas Hernández, who died during the AXE Ceremonia 2025 festival in Mexico City, has filed a complaint regarding a 100 million peso insurance payout. Legal advisor Tábata Salas stated that the family was unaware that the organizing company, Grupo Eco, received this amount from GMX Seguros following the accident.

The tragedy occurred on April 5, 2025, at Parque Bicentenario when a decorative structure supported by a crane collapsed, killing Rojas Hernández and fellow photojournalist Berenice Giles. While documents suggest the funds were intended for victim reparations and legal expenses, the family claims they have not seen these conditions met.

In related legal developments, a civil protection official was formally charged in October 2026. The insurance dispute has since sparked protests from the victims' families and associates.
