FAO and IDB launch roadmap to decouple agriculture from deforestation
Representatives from 13 Latin American countries are meeting in Panama to develop a shared roadmap aimed at decoupling agricultural production from deforestation. Organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the initiative seeks to establish sustainable economic growth through nature-based solutions.
The experts are exploring two primary strategies: government-led regularization and the implementation of new financing and innovation mechanisms. These mechanisms are intended to encourage agricultural practices that prioritize soil fertility and water maintenance. The goal is to create synergies that allow for the production of commodities such as coffee, cocoa, and livestock without driving forest loss.
