FAO recognizes women leaders in agroalimentary systems

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has named 100 women as heroes of agroalimentary systems and rural development. The recognition, announced on World Food Day, highlights female leadership across various sectors, including sustainable fishing and agriculture.

Among the honorees are Brazilian leaders Joana Rodrigues Mousinho and Luena Pataxó. Mousinho, a 70-year-old artisanal fisher from Pernambuco, is a pioneer in advocating for women's rights in the fishing sector and protecting mangrove ecosystems. Luena Pataxó, an indigenous leader and fisher from Bahia, was also recognized for her work. The list also includes Teresa Mariz from Angola, representing a global group of women driving innovation and biodiversity protection.
