Farmers in Telangana protest electricity shortages
Farmers across several districts in Telangana, including Nizamabad, Suryapet, and Palamuru, held protests on Sunday demanding uninterrupted and high-quality electricity supply. Protesters gathered at various electricity substations to voice concerns that irregular power supply could cause significant damage to crops currently in critical growth stages.
In the Jadcherla area, farmers expressed their grievances by cooking and eating meals on the road near the Urkondapeta and Jakinalapalli villages. Local leaders noted that the lack of canal irrigation water, combined with inadequate electricity, has exacerbated the difficulties faced by farmers struggling to repay agricultural loans.
In Nizamabad, demonstrators surrounded the Adavi Mamidipalli substation and staged a sit-in on the Armoor-Nizamabad highway. Meanwhile, in Suryapet, farmers demanded at least 12 hours of quality power daily, alleging that the current supply of six to eight hours fails to meet the promises made by the government prior to the assembly elections.
