Farmers in Thai Nguyen adopt self-made probiotics to cut costs

In Thai Nguyen, Vietnam, livestock farmers are reducing production costs by producing their own probiotics using common agricultural byproducts such as rice bran and molasses.

Le Duc Toan, a farmer managing over 30 beef cattle, reported that purchasing commercial probiotics previously cost his family between 5 and 7 million VND per month. By transitioning to self-produced microbial preparations, monthly expenses have dropped to only a few hundred thousand VND.

This method supports circular and sustainable livestock farming by utilizing agricultural waste, treating livestock manure, and assisting in organic fertilizer production. To promote regional development, Toan has shared his techniques with other local farming households to help lower input costs and improve livestock sustainability.
