Farmers launch 228-km foot march to Delhi amid border security tightening

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) has launched the ‘Kisan Bachao Padyatra’, a 228-kilometer foot march starting from the Datasinghwala-Khannuri border on the Punjab-Haryana boundary. Led by Jagjit Singh Dallewal, the march aims to reach Delhi’s Jantar Mantar by August 29, where a large farmers' panchayat is planned.

Unlike previous protests, this march will not use tractor-trolleys; instead, 51 farmers will walk the entire distance, supported by approximately 200 other farmers and various vehicles. The protest is organized to oppose the India-US trade deal and to demand a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP), debt relief, pensions, and other pending agricultural issues.

In response to the march, Haryana police have tightened security at the Khannuri border, implementing five layers of barricading with containers and large stones to prevent protesters from entering Haryana and moving toward Delhi. Organizers have stated the march will be conducted in a peaceful and disciplined manner.
