Overview

Security forces have increased surveillance and barricading at various borders to manage planned farmer demonstrations heading toward Delhi.

In late July, police in Gautam Buddha Nagar and Delhi intensified security at the Noida-Delhi border, utilizing joint checking operations and additional personnel to scrutinize vehicles and pedestrians. These measures were intended to prevent disruptions during planned marches toward Jantar Mantar.

By mid-August, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) initiated the ‘Kisan Bachao Padyatra’, a 228-kilometer foot march starting from the Punjab-Haryana boundary. Led by Jagjit Singh Dallewal, the march aims to reach Delhi by August 29 to hold a farmers' panchayat. The protesters are demanding a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP), debt relief, and pensions, while also opposing an India-US trade deal. In response, Haryana police have implemented five layers of barricading, including the use of containers and stones, at the Khannuri border to manage the movement.
