Farmers protest nitrogen measures in Vriezenveen and Giethoorn

Farmers in the Netherlands held protests in Vriezenveen and Giethoorn to voice opposition to national nitrogen reduction measures.

In Vriezenveen, demonstrators gathered at the town hall to present a letter to local officials. During the event, Alderman Jan Jonker expressed sympathy for agricultural families, noting the limited influence local municipalities have over decisions made in The Hague. Local coalition members called on representatives from the CDA and VVD to lobby against the current agricultural plans.

In Giethoorn, the protest featured tractors lined along the canal banks and speeches delivered from a floating platform decorated with inverted Dutch flags. Protesters argued that the government's policies impact not only farmers but also the tourism sector, local entrepreneurs, and the broader landscape of the Weerribben-Wieden area. No major disturbances were reported during the Giethoorn demonstration.
