Faro Santander cultural center to open in Santander

Faro Santander, a new cultural center established by the Banco Santander Foundation, is set to open in Santander, Spain. Located in the transformed historic Pereda building, the center aims to attract over 200,000 annual visitors and contribute to the city's growing cultural landscape alongside institutions like Centro Botín.

The inaugural programming features the foundation's collection of over a thousand major paintings and sculptures, including works by masters such as Titian, El Greco, Rubens, and Velázquez. Additionally, the center will host exhibitions focused on Mexican modern art via the Gelman Collection—featuring artists like Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera—and an exhibition regarding Leonora Carrington’s time in Cantabria.

Director Daniel Vega noted that while the center is not intended to replicate the scale of the Guggenheim Bilbao, it serves as a vital part of a local cultural ring. The opening is expected to be attended by King Felipe VI.
