Fatal accidents and crimes reported in Chad and Cameroon
In N’Djamena, Chad, two children approximately 10 years old drowned in a sand extraction quarry in the Ngonba Sara area of the 9th arrondissement. The site had filled with water due to recent rains. Two other children were rescued from the site following the incident. Gendarmerie officials attended the scene to conduct investigations, and the bodies were returned to the families.
In Cameroon, several incidents were reported on August 17, 2026. In Maroua, a 9-year-old boy and his mother, Djoumala Tekele, died after falling into a water-filled excavation in the Makabaï neighborhood. In Bakombo, a 40-year-old man is under investigation for the suspected sexual abuse of a 10-year-old girl. In Kribi, a man was fatally stabbed during a dispute at a birthday party in the Pangou neighborhood. Additionally, a motorcycle taxi driver was killed and his vehicle stolen in Bertoua, and a police officer died in an accident in Douala.
