Fatal accidents reported in Chile and Peru involving maritime activities
A 35-year-old man died in Zapallar, Chile, after being swept away by a sudden wave while recreational fishing near Piedra Blanca. According to Max Jiménez, the Municipal Security Director, the wave unexpectedly struck two members of a group, dragging them into the sea. While one individual lost his life, a second person sustained multiple contusions but is reported to be out of danger.
In Sechura, Peru, a 38-year-old diver named Aldo Silva Armas died during scallop extraction in the Parachique-La Bocana area. Witnesses allege that a cargo vessel traveling at high speed may have severed the oxygen hose supplying the diver. Although colleagues attempted a rescue, they were unable to save him. Authorities are investigating the vessel, identified by registration PT-43750BM, to determine responsibility and whether safety protocols were followed.
