Borča man dies after falling into channel near pumping station

A 28-year-old man, identified as O. E., died after falling into a deep channel near a pumping station in the Crvenka settlement of Borča. The incident occurred around 3:00 AM while the man was out with four friends. According to witnesses, the group had gone to the embankment to grill corn. While navigating through brush in the dark, the man reportedly slipped and fell into a five-meter-deep area containing water and mud.

Despite efforts by his companions to assist him, he disappeared beneath the surface. His body was recovered in the early morning hours by the Gendarmerie's Diving Unit. Investigators noted that his mobile phone and cigarette box were found at the scene. Local residents reported that the group did not appear to be intoxicated at the time of the accident. An investigation into the circumstances of the death is ongoing.

Experts highlight the extreme dangers of proximity to infrastructure such as pumping stations, noting that thick mud can act similarly to quicksand, leading to entrapment and drowning.
