Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Istanbul's Arnavutköy Claims Woman's Life as Driver Flees
A commercial vehicle struck Güler Karavay, 47, while she was walking with her husband Adem and their niece in Arnavutköy, Istanbul. The impact threw her onto the road, and the driver continued past her before fleeing the scene. Karavay later died in hospital; her husband suffered severe injuries and the niece was lightly hurt.
Police identified the driver, T. Ü., from security‑camera footage and arrested him early the next morning. He was transferred to the prosecutor's office for further proceedings. Neighborhood residents, who have complained about nighttime loud music, alcohol use, drifting and racing on the nearby road, are calling for sidewalks, speed‑calming measures and stricter enforcement to prevent future incidents.
