Incidents involving fatbikes have been reported in Belgium and the Netherlands, highlighting issues with both reckless use and theft.

In Sint-Truiden, Belgium, local police seized a fatbike on August 3, 2026, after riders engaged in dangerous behavior on the Grote Markt. Witnesses reported riders performing wheelies and slalomming through pedestrians at high speeds. Mayor Ludwig Vandenhove stated that “reckless driving will not be tolerated” and noted an increase in reports regarding e-steps and fatbikes during the summer months. The municipality plans to contact local schools to discuss safe usage regulations.

In Tilburg, Netherlands, a man named Peter was stabbed in the back while attempting to prevent the theft of his daughter's fatbike. The incident occurred on Edisonlaan when two suspects attempted to steal the electric bike. Despite the victim receiving hospital treatment and stitches, he expressed regret over intervening in the theft. The suspects fled the scene on a stolen electric bicycle.
