Favara municipal council approves tax debt forgiveness amid mayoral criticism
The local branch of Democrazia Cristiana released a document signed by Giuseppe Nobile accusing Favara mayor Vincenzo Palumbo of failing to meet the responsibilities of his mandate. The statement highlighted deteriorating municipal services, citing neglected municipal villas, damaged sports facilities and, in particular, the condition of the town cemetery where “salme” (bodies) were allegedly stored in unsanitary circumstances. The party called on the regional health authority to inspect the cemetery for compliance with public‑health regulations.
At the same time, the Favara municipal council voted to adopt a "rottamazione quinquies" programme that waives penalties and interest on unpaid municipal taxes dating from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2023. Giuseppe Veneziano praised the decision, saying it represents “a victory for the people” and allowing residents to regularise their fiscal position without harming the municipal budget.
