FAW launches ultra‑fast EV battery that reaches 97% charge in just 8 minutes

Chinese automaker FAW announced a new electric‑vehicle battery, developed with Lishen Battery, that can charge from 10% to 70% state of charge in 3 minutes 41 seconds and reach 97% in 8 minutes 3 seconds. The pack achieves a 12C charge rate thanks to a proprietary electrolyte, high‑efficiency anode and a carbon‑composite coating that reduces internal resistance by about 15%.

An integrated liquid‑cooling system keeps the temperature differential between cells within 3 °C, while adaptive software monitors temperature and voltage in real time to prevent overheating and over‑charge. FAW says the technology brings EV refuelling time close to that of conventional gasoline stations. The breakthrough comes amid a rapid‑charging race in China, where rivals such as BYD’s Blade Battery 2.0 and Geely’s Energee Golden Brick are also pursuing flash‑charging solutions.
