Fawzi Luqja joins Morocco's Authenticity and Modernity party, eyed to lead the 'Mundial Government

Fawzi Luqja, the minister delegate responsible for the budget and president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, announced his entry into the Authenticity and Modernity (Al‑Asala wa Al‑Muasara) party during its 32nd national council. The party presented its electoral programme and highlighted Luqja’s addition as a move to boost its chances in the upcoming parliamentary elections and to position the party to form the next administration, informally called the “Mundial Government”, which would oversee Morocco’s preparations for co‑hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.

Luqja’s career spans decades in the Ministry of Economy and Finance, including roles as director of the budget department and later as budget minister. He also transformed the football club Nadi Nahda Berkane from an amateur outfit into a nationally and continentally competitive team and, since 2014, has overseen a comprehensive reform of Moroccan football governance. Opposition figures, such as Abdelilah Benkirane of the Justice and Development Party, criticised the Authenticity and Modernity party’s stability and alleged corruption among its leaders.

The announcement underscores the intertwining of sport, administration and politics in Morocco as the country prepares for a historic World Cup hosting role.
