Newly released documents reveal that the FBI launched a highly classified investigation into Donald Trump in 2017, codenamed "Operation Oxford Comma." The investigation aimed to determine if the President was acting as an asset for Russia.

According to reports, the discrete operation began immediately following the dismissal of FBI Director James Comey in May 2017. White House officials noted the operation was kept hidden from other agents to avoid appearing in regular files, a method deemed the "least intrusive" way to handle a potential national security risk.

The secret case eventually became part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's broader Russia investigation. However, a White House official stated that the original investigation lacked substantial evidence, noting that "almost everything that the FBI had at that time had refuted or excluded that Trump or his campaign collaborated with Russia at that time."
