FBI reports 189 anti-Sikh and 32 anti-Hindu hate crimes in US
An FBI annual report reveals that law enforcement agencies recorded 189 hate crime incidents motivated by anti-Sikh bias and 32 incidents motivated by anti-Hindu bias in 2025.
Out of 2,703 single-bias religious hate crimes reported, anti-Sikh bias accounted for 7 percent, while anti-Hindu bias represented 1.2 percent. In terms of victims, approximately 193 individuals were targeted due to anti-Sikh bias, and 34 were targeted due to anti-Hindu bias. The report noted that anti-Jewish bias remained the largest category of religious hate crimes at 62.3 percent, followed by anti-Muslim bias at 9.6 percent.
The report further stated that Indian Americans are not classified as a separate racial or ethnic group in these statistics. Consequently, victims of Indian origin may be categorized under Asian-anti, Hindu-anti, Sikh-anti, or other bias categories depending on local official classifications, making it difficult to determine the exact total of Indian American hate crime victims from the national summary.
