US religious hate crime statistics
Overview
FBI data for 2025 reveals various trends in religiously motivated hate crimes within the United States. The reports indicate that Jewish people remain the primary targets, with 1,528 reported incidents accounting for approximately 64% of all religious hate crimes. While this figure represents a 21% decrease from 2024, Eric D. Fingerhut, CEO of the Jewish Federations of North America, characterized the situation as an “antisemitic domestic terror crisis.”
In addition to antisemitism, the FBI recorded 189 hate crime incidents motivated by anti-Sikh bias and 32 incidents motivated by anti-Hindu bias. Anti-Sikh bias accounted for 7% of the 2,703 single-bias religious hate crimes reported. The data also noted that anti-Muslim bias represented 9.6% of such crimes.
Regarding the classification of victims, the report noted that Indian Americans are not listed as a separate racial or ethnic group, which may complicate the determination of exact totals for Indian American victims as they may be categorized under various bias labels depending on local classifications.
