FC Barcelona announces new captaincy hierarchy

FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has announced a new captaincy hierarchy for the club. Raphinha has been designated as the first captain, with Pedri serving as the second.

Following the departures of Marc-André ter Stegen and Ronald Araújo, Frenkie de Jong was expected to move up the leadership ranks. However, the final hierarchy places him as the fourth captain, following Eric García, who was selected by a team vote. Lamine Yamal occupies the fifth position.

Flick explained that he personally chose the first two captains because they are essential starters and influential figures, while allowing the squad to vote on the remaining three positions. He expressed support for the group the team selected, stating, “For me, it is a good group with leadership.”

De Jong is currently sidelined due to a medial collateral ligament injury in his right knee and is expected to miss the upcoming match against Valencia.
