Overview

Following the departure of Robert Lewandowski to Chicago Fire, FC Barcelona entered the 2025–26 season with a significant void in central attacking production. In response to these roster shifts, manager Hansi Flick initially appointed Brazilian forward Raphinha as the provisional captain for the upcoming season, alongside Pedri and Eric García. This leadership structure was temporary until the squad was finalized. Following a formal process, Flick designated Raphinha as the first captain and Pedri as the second, noting they were chosen because they are “essential starters and influential figures.” The remaining hierarchy was determined by a team vote, placing Eric García as the third captain, Frenkie de Jong as the fourth, and Lamine Yamal as the fifth. De Jong is currently sidelined with a medial collateral ligament injury in his right knee.
