CAF annuls Edo Queens victory, orders WAFU B final to resume

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has annulled the 4-1 penalty-shootout victory of Nigeria’s Edo Queens over Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the WAFU Zone B qualifying final. The decision follows a formal protest by the Ghana Football Association regarding the handling of the match played on September 5 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

While the match ended in a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes, officials erroneously directed the teams straight to a penalty shootout instead of the mandatory two 15-minute periods of extra time required by competition regulations. CAF stated the error resulted from erroneous administrative instructions and was not the fault of either club.

CAF has rejected requests for a full replay of the match, ruling that the 90 minutes played were valid. Instead, the final must resume from the beginning of extra time with the score tied at 2-2. If the score remains level after the extra time periods, a new penalty shootout will determine the winner and the qualifying spot for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
