FC Sion proposes €494 million stadium with integrated roller coaster

FC Sion has officially submitted a preliminary technical and feasibility proposal for a new multifunctional arena named ‘Cervin Coliseum’. The project, part of the ‘Sion 2030’ strategic plan, aims to replace the club’s current home, the Stade de Tourbillon.

The ambitious development is estimated to cost between 450 million and 494 million euros. A central feature of the design is an integrated roller coaster that will wind around the exterior of the stadium to serve as a year-round tourist attraction.

Designed to be a multi-use venue, the arena will feature a retractable roof and a flexible capacity: approximately 15,000 to 21,000 spectators for football matches, and up to 33,000 for concerts. Other planned amenities include an 80-room hotel and technology to protect the natural grass during non-sporting events. The club intends to host roughly 100 events annually, including tennis, ice hockey, and combat sports.

The project has been presented to authorities in the Canton of Valais and the municipality of Sion. A public consultation is expected to take place in mid-2027, with construction potentially following shortly after.
