FC Sion Cervin Coliseum stadium proposal

Overview

FC Sion has proposed the development of a new multifunctional arena named ‘Cervin Coliseum’ as part of its ‘Sion 2030’ strategic plan. The project aims to replace the club’s current home, the Stade de Tourbillon, with a venue designed to serve as a year-round tourism and entertainment hub in the Alps.

The estimated cost of the project is between 450 million and 494 million euros (or approximately 450 million to 492 million Swiss francs). A distinctive feature of the design is an integrated roller coaster that will wind around the exterior of the stadium.

Planned amenities include an 80-room hotel, a retractable roof, and flexible capacity ranging from 15,000 to 21,000 spectators for football matches to 33,000 for concerts. The club intends to host approximately 100 events annually, including tennis, ice hockey, and combat sports. The proposal has been submitted to the authorities in the Canton of Valais and the municipality of Sion for technical review, with a public inquiry expected in mid-2027.
