FCT Police intercept vehicle with suspected fake presidency plates

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intercepted a black Toyota Corolla in Abuja for allegedly using a fake presidency registration number plate. The vehicle, bearing registration number M01-997 FG, was stopped on October 26, 2026, following intelligence reports. During preliminary investigations, the driver, Agbogun Godson Benard, was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the source of the registration number.

This incident follows a similar interception on October 20, 2026, involving a Lexus LX570 SUV in the Maitama District. That vehicle reportedly featured a concealed number plate with the inscription ‘PRESIDENCY’ and was linked to a suspect allegedly impersonating a Permanent Secretary attached to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Investigations into both cases are ongoing to determine the authenticity of the registration particulars and the circumstances of the plate allocations.
