FDP Lübeck calls for partial ban of AfD
The FDP Lübeck district party convention has passed a resolution to advocate for a partial ban of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. The proposed legal action would specifically target state associations that have been officially classified as ‘secured right-wing extremist’ by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, such as those in Thuringia and Saxony.
Jan-Niklas Kaufmann, a state parliamentary candidate for FDP Lübeck, stated that a defensive democracy must not remain passive when its foundations are under attack. He described the party ban as a constitutional tool intended to be used when evidence is clear, leaving the final decision to the Federal Constitutional Court. The local FDP emphasized that while they acknowledge voter dissatisfaction, political responsibility requires protecting the liberal democratic basic order.
