Febraban launches national debt negotiation campaign in Brazil
The Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) has launched a national debt negotiation and financial guidance campaign running throughout November. The initiative is a partnership with the Central Bank of Brazil, the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon), and various consumer protection agencies (Procons).
Over 160 financial institutions are participating, offering various terms such as extended payment periods, reduced interest rates, and modified payment conditions. Eligible debts include credit cards, overdrafts (cheque especial), and payroll-deductible loans (crédito consignado), provided they are not past the statute of limitations.
Debts involving collateral, such as vehicle or real estate financing, are excluded from this specific campaign. Consumers can negotiate directly through their creditors' official channels or via the Consumidor.gov.br portal using silver or gold-level accounts.
